How big companies robbed my future

Most parents want to secure their child’s future. In most cases, they secure the child financially through a personal bank account, an insurance plan, and most importantly, an education plan. Fortunately though, through my parents’ hard work, they secured all three of them to me and my siblings. I think by now you know where I’m going.

Financially speaking, each of us have our own bank account. As a positive reinforcement, my parents would reward us money in times that we get good grades and good exam scores. The “rewards” directly go to our bank account, which would eventually be used in case we needed money for college and such. And following the title’s context, the first thing that was robbed from me was my bank account. Last year, Banco Filipino unexpectedly closed its doors to the public. It was our first bank so most of our money was deposited there. It was tough since it took months to file and process our claim. Unfortunately, all of our accounts were in my mom’s name and the total would go to some Php620K. PDIC’s (Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation) policy only insured a unique client of up to Php500,000.00 in claims; meaning, we only get to get 500K and lose the remaining 120K.

In a similar event, my dad is a planholder at CAP. He recalls he has some Php300K of insurance for us. Again, due to unclear reasons, we lost the claim. All of it. Gone just like that. It really irks me to betray public trust. Feels like I want to head over to their building and start shooting anyone I see.

But I can’t, and I shouldn’t. At least, that’s what they taught us in school. Which brings me to my third point. Technically, my parents are capable of supporting my studies; but what is the point of having an educational plan? I’m in a private school so I’d likely only get a portion of the plan. It’s still okay since at least we get to harvest some of the fruits, than to have nothing at all. I mean, who gives 10K per year to support your studies? Moving on, I learned that Prudential Life Plans was told by the government to stop the payment of claims. When I saw it in the news, I was so close to exploding. I had enough of the shit. Enough of other people stealing my parents’ hard work and my future. Bullshit.

No, this is no joke. This is the future we’re talking about. Not only mine, but also other victims of failed corporate governance. I hope this turns out good, or else I might do something bad. Very bad.
