In actual circumstances

you do not need to bring your itinerary upon checking-in at the airport (unless you’re on an international flight). We live in the 21st century! Of course they have your name on their computers! That’s the beauty of it. I did it once when I forgot to printout my ticket. The airline staff still checked me in. Even so, you will still need to present a valid ID. SOP, but that’s not my point.

Here’s why you have to bring your itinerary

  1. The airport security will have to look at your ticket to verify if you are really a passenger for today’s flights.
  2. Checking in would be much faster (although, I doubt it’s still the same); and third,
  3. The airport security will have to look at your ticket.

Well that’s a bummer. Funny how the ticket’s supposed to be used at the check-in counter but it’s actually the security group who’s gonna look at it.
